Nagarjunakonda: Monasteries and Their School Affiliations

Narrative representations have not been found in all Buddhist monasteries. In some areas, for instance the region of modern Sannati ancient Āndhradeśa, only one stūpa, known today as Kanaganahalli, was decorated with opulent narrative reliefs, while others display none at all. It appears that schools were interested not. The area now Nagarjunakonda – historical Vijayapurī Ikṣvāku dynasty 3rd century CE offers best opportunity to investigate which monasteries reliefs came from. Among approximately 40 complexes excavated, actually name resident monks belonged to, and built following different layouts, discovered a few complexes. All these show very similar layout stūpa outside monks’ cells, are positioned U-shape, two apsidal temples facing each other. One gives related school Aparamahāvinaśaila. seems this those representations, mentioned inscriptions (Theravādins, Mahīśāsakas, Bahuśrutīyas)
